Last week my daughter turned one and then we celebrated Thanksgiving.
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” - Psalm 100:4-5
I’m thankful to God for saving my life and rescuing me from the pit of despair. I’m thankful for his faithfulness through times where I was far from him, that he never kept leaving the ninety-nine to look for me. I’m thankful that he’s continued to be faithful and good in the journey since that moment, gripping my hand as I walked through uncertain waters and my anchor for public and private success.
I’m thankful to my wife’s courage to leave the safety and comfort of her life in Singapore to join me in America and embark on a new adventure. It’s a new adventure full of uncertainty: needing to make new friends, find new rhythms, and adjust to a new way of life. She’s been so brave and steady and kind through it all. I’m grateful she is such a wonderful mother to our daughter. She has made that transition with so much grace and love and Sophia and I have been the true beneficiaries. I truly am the blessed man.
I’m grateful to my daughter for bringing such joy into our lives. I’m thankful for how she eagerly crawls towards the bookshelf every morning to ask me to read to her (even if it’s the same book fifteen times in a row!) I’m grateful for the way she wants to bang metal straws on a cup to play the drums. I love the way she gnaws on baby back ribs and vibes to French music. I’m grateful that she’s already growing into a beautiful and vibrant girl and that she overcame the health scares she had earlier this year.
I’m grateful for the people who’ve believed in me in my career so far like Max at Volley and then Leo and Chad at Susa. I’m grateful that I’ve found my calling in life and that I could tap dance to work every day. I’m thankful to the founders who’ve entrusted us to be part of their journey and to the many more I’ll work with in the future. It’s a responsibility I take seriously. I am grateful to be a small part of supporting their journey to creating abundance in this world.
Lastly, I’m thankful to all of you who read these articles. Writing has been such a clarifying journey for me and helped sharpen my thinking across so many dimensions of my job. Thanks for being a receptive audience I can share whatever’s going on in my mind.
Happy Thanksgiving and have a great holiday season.
